Stowe Place & Stowe Mews South Road Newhaven
The project comprised the demolition of the former police station and the construction of twenty-one units of affordable rented accommodation on this very restricted site in the town centre.
Extensive piled foundations and retaining walls were required before the superstructure, comprising traditional brick and block walls, precast plank floors and tiled pitched roofs commenced.
The design incorporates a ‘fabric first’ approach alongside air source heat pumps for the two houses and air to water heat pumps for the nineteen flats. These, together with the installation of PV panels throughout, maximise the energy efficiency of the whole development.
Close liaison was maintained with the surrounding neighbourhood which includes a Doctors Surgery, Pharmacy and residential properties, to ensure minimal disruption. Externally, the scheme provides a small central car park and private garden spaces for the ground floor dwellings. Groundworks and civil engineering were undertaken by the Company’s in-house department.
