Greenacres South Chailey East Sussex
The project provides new supported living accommodation for adults with complex needs. Work commenced with the demolition of an existing building and the installation of part concrete strip foundations and part piled with associated ground beams.
The six single storey long term tenancy flats comprise individual living, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom spaces and are accessed from a secure central courtyard with all aspects of design planned to ensure a safe environment for both residents and staff. The two storey block accommodates a further two flats, again with individual living, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom spaces, for the provision of short term respite care. In addition, this block accommodates three staff offices, two meeting/staff bedroom spaces, a staff welfare room and a sluice laundry room. Externally, each long term tenancy flat is provided with a small private garden and a small communal garden is provided for the short term residents.
Construction is traditional, with masonry external and internal walls, beam and block ground floors, with precast concrete Hollowcore first floor to the two storey building. The roof is of timber construction with single ply membrane. Designed to meet the needs of residents and staff, the internal walls of the long term flats are curved, with a vinyl covering, and windows and doors are fitted with anti-ligature ironmongery.
External works carried out by the Company’s in-house Groundworks and Civil Engineering Department includes Bodpave paver cells to the car parking area and the construction of footpaths, roads and landscaped areas.
