Palatine Primary School Worthing

The project comprised the construction of a single storey standalone classroom block with motorised hoist system, to provide four specialist classrooms for pupils with profound and multiple learning disabilities, within the campus of a live SEND school.   Pupils are supported by a multi-disciplinary team including speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and school nurses.

Facilities include hygiene rooms, group rooms, a laundry, kitchenette and staff rooms.  Following the enabling works, which included site clearance and demolition of existing buildings, a large attenuation tank was installed in the initial weeks, in a space which would have been inaccessible once the building substructure had commenced.   Construction was strip foundations, load bearing masonry and a flat felt roof.  A large soffit minimises solar gain.  Works were sequenced to minimise their impact on the live school, with the utility and incoming services works scheduled to take place during the school holidays.

External landscaping works, include hard surface play areas, vegetation planting, boundary fencing and wheelchair accessible walkways.
