The Hawthorns School Bletchingley

The Hawthorns School is an independent preparatory school and nursery set within a conservation area. The project commenced with the demolition of the existing facility followed by the construction of a new two-storey nursery with external play areas. The design and use of materials are sympathetic to the existing Pendell Court, a grade II* listed building situated within the school grounds.

Construction comprised traditional concrete foundations, with a steel frame supporting the first floor, pitched timber roof rafters and structural metal walls. The external façade is brick, with large windows and sliding patio doors on the ground floor. Internal finishes include plasterboard walls and linoleum floor coverings with under floor heating.

Works carried out by the Sunninghill Groundworks and Civil Engineering teams include construction of the traditional foundations, play area and resin bound paths.
