DREAM Centre Chailey Heritage School North Chailey
The Memorial Hall, built in the 1950s, has been extended and adapted to provide a new multi-purpose indoor activity centre for the Foundation and the community.
The new indoor space can now accommodate activities such as wheelchair football and boccia, and a powered wheelchair driving school. Part of the stage area, concealed under a hydraulic controlled floor, houses a trampoline for Rebound Therapy.
Several existing elevations have been retained and overclad with upgraded insulation, with a variety of finishes including tile hanging, zinc and feature polycarbonate illuminated panels. A new colonnade wraps around the building.
Groundworks, which included an extension to the existing foundations, new drainage and hard landscaping were carried out by the Company’s in house Groundworks and Civil Engineering Department. The Company had previously carried out a number of projects for the Foundation, the most recent being a Life Skills Centre for young people over the age of 19 with profound complex physical and health needs to help them learn new skills, engage in new activities and develop leisure pursuits. The safety of children and young people with complex disabilities, and staff and carers was, again, a priority at all times.
