Cranleigh C of E Primary School Surrey
A single storey Early Years block has been constructed, following demolition of the existing facility. Access to the site was very restricted, necessitating a banksman for escorting vehicles along the narrow Church Lane.
The new facilities comprise a single storey block providing two teaching classrooms, two group rooms and ancillary accommodation. The building was raised above ground and constructed on piled foundations due to its proximity to three large mature trees. The majority of the build was constructed within the root protection zone and the excavation works were overseen by an arboriculturist.
The raised building height required a suspended floor construction with a main entrance ramp and steps, alongside ‘no dig’ specifications for all surrounding external hard surfacing. Material surfaces included tarmac, rubber crumb and artificial grass. The building was of traditional masonry cavity wall with timber roof structure and two layer reinforced felt finish. External facing brickwork was used below DPC with Cedral timber effect cladding above.
The project was completed in readiness for the start of the autumn term.
